Gisa Mayer
— Gisa Mayer —
Gisa Mayer grew up in the green foothills of the Bavarian Alps. Skiing after school was more important than attending afternoon classes in High School and spending time outside in the mountains and on lakes in the summer left her longing for the outdoors during her time spent studying Art, Art History and Romance Languages at Universities in Germany, Austria and Italy.
Her first studio was in the perfect spot, a lakeside town with views of the Alps. After moving around a bit she moved to Calgary in Alberta permanently in 1997 and the Rockies have been her favourite subject ever since.
Movement in the skies, long lines in the rock, the endless
colours of the vegetation are a never ending source of inspiration for her big, bold landscapes. Small details of rocks and plants and lichen, but also flowers are another favourite subject.
After her excursions into the realm of the abstract, she always returns to painting nature because she thinks the kind of landscapes we grow up with are forever the spaces we long for, especially if they are as gorgeous as the mountains in Bavaria.
Her paintings are represented in many private and corporate collections in Europe, North America and Australia.
If Gisa is not in her studio, you probably can find her outside, skiing, hiking, swimming in cold mountain lakes or just looking at the awesome beauty that surrounds her.
