Artist Statement: “Through a variety of mixed media processes combining photography, acrylic paint, cold wax and oil my aim is to reflect and show the interconnectedness of our human experience with the landscape and our place & identity within the cosmos. With “Skygazing” – my focus was the skyscape at twilight – the moment when the sun completely sets on the Pacific Ocean and when the stars slowly begin to appear. In mid-January we experienced a polar vortex phenomenon on the west coast of Canada which undeniably affected the clearness and crispness of our night skies – the colours we observed here were unprecedented. I had a sense of urgency to capture this fleeting moment from my studio window – knowing full well that we would be back to the overcast skies we usually experience and that the stars would again become invisible. “
