Known for her familiar depictions of houses and buildings in and around Calgary, Harris’ architectural paintings emerge out of her own form of hyper-pigmented realism. Her renderings of these spaces/places exist somewhere between a memory and reality, allowing the viewer to be gently lulled into a nostalgia that is not of that overly sentimental kind but in that you see these houses and buildings in their present and contemporary incarnation as preturnatural - outside of their naturally existing state.

“My work is a constant personal journey. I’m compelled to be honest with myself and inevitably through the work. My own life is reflected within this process. Layers represent memory and nostalgic images express that which I wish to relive. Desire to be somewhere else, not choosing to live in the moment, then deciding to be present.

I have always been intrigued by memories and how they affect one’s life In the present moment. An image can capture so many emotions. I want to communicate with the viewer that I have created a space for them to have their personal moment with my work. This is how I connect through my creative process that is my personal journey.”
