Make hay while the sun shines, as they say. Solar farms bring new meaning to that saying—the crop from this type of farm is electricity.

Harvesting the sun’s rays is becoming a popular method of generating renewable electricity. Solar farms vary in size, with panels covering a few acres to many thousand. Once acre can generate enough to power about 30 homes. At full capacity, India’s Bhadla Solar Park, one of the world’s largest, can power 4.5 million homes!

But you don’t have to go that far to find big solar farms. I took this shot just outside the City of Calgary. A cheery color palette—blue sky, green earth and yellow sunlight—puts us in the right mood for solar power.
