The energy we use in our day to day lives is distributed mostly through pipes or wires. As the world strives to reduce carbon emissions, the emphasis will shift increasingly to wires carrying electricity.
You can’t see pipes, because they’re mostly buried. Wires are visually everywhere—just look up. We tend not to notice them. Perhaps we’re desensitized to it all after over a century of living with them on the urban landscape. Will we notice when the number of wires grow?
My base photo for this piece was taken in Kyoto, Japan, in 2007. The green sky highlights our aspirations for clean energy against a backdrop of hot and cold electrical infrastructure.
