Artist Statement “Stories of Possibility”
"Creativity is a lot like looking at the world through a kaleidoscope. You look at a set of elements, the same ones everyone else sees, but then reassemble those floating bits and pieces into an enticing new possibility.” (Rosabeth Kanter)
The post covid era presents us with an ongoing search for new ways of being and new possibilities...
During this time I allowed myself some extra creative space in which to explore a range of interests in art and life with less concern about how they may line up as a concept for exhibition.
The following areas of exploration are based on my recent life experiences and fall into five categories: wise words, goddesses, neurographic art, the Selkirks and the Kootenays. It was exciting and fun to venture into new territory, taking new risks beyond landscape painting.
This creative process opened up the opportunity for exploration, honesty, and unexpected adventure.
I realized that overall, there were some general themes that emerged from the initial chaos: themes of growth, process, connection and transformation. I believe these themes reflect the times of change and adaptation we are living in now in the world.
I have used my studio as a place to explore the idea of trusting the creative process more, as wild as it can sometimes be, and allowing what IS, to be what it IS. This practice has helped me in letting go of expectations (a bit), surrendering to what is happening (more), and learn to practice this in my life as well as in my studio (ongoing).
